SIERRAS D’AIRE and CANDEEIROS (1 Day)

We begin our tour as small explorers in one of the 7 Natural Wonders of Portugal, the Caves of Mira D’Aire, discovered in 1947 by local people. With a current extension that reaches 11kms, its 600 meters visitable confer them the place of the largest tourist cave in Portugal offering an unique underground journey.

Then, we head towards the Natural Monument of the Footprints of Dinosaurs in the Natural Park of the Sierras D’Aire and Candeeiros, where we can directly contact a fossil record of the Jurassic period, about 175 million years old and the footprints of the largest dinosaur that occupied the planet Earth – the sauropod dinosaurs. Free time to lunch.

After lunch we travel to Alviela, where we will find the headspring of Olhos d’Agua, the most important spring in Portugal and the Alviela Living Science Center, an area of science and technology that allows the visitor to “stand on the skin” of a bat, travel through the Stones Limestone Mass for 175 million years and unveil in 3D the subterranean paths of water.

We end our trip in the Salt Ecomuseum of Rio Maior, considered unique at a national level, been classified as Property of Public Interest since December of 1997. They are still in the present day in exploration surrounded by a small village of streets of stone and wooden houses where we can find an offer of handicraft shops and local products. Free time for shopping and sightseeing. Return.
