CASTLES and MONASTERIES of PORTUGAL I (1 Day)

We begin our journey towards the Medieval Castle of Torres Novas classified as National Monument and from which one we can enjoy a magnificent view over the city.

We follow the visit in the Castle of Almourol, in Vila Nova da Barquinha established on a small island in Tagus river one of the most expressive military monuments evoking the Order of the Templars in Portugal.

We then proceed to Tomar a land of Templars where the connection with the orders of the Templars and Christ is strongly marked in the Convent of Christ and all its monumental complex, Templar Castle of Tomar, the Convent of the Order of Christ, the Hermitage of the Immaculate Conception and the Aqueduct of Pegões. The Castle of Tomar and Christ’s Convent, headquarter of the religious and military orders of the Temple and Christ was classified and inscribed on the UNESCO as World Heritage. Free time for lunch.

After lunch we will visit Ourém and its Castle or Paço dos Condes de Ourém, considered one of the most beautiful Portuguese castles from where D. Nuno Alvares Pereira left to the Battle of Aljubarrota.

We end our visit at the Shrine of Fatima, an important place of pilgrimage built on the place where in 1917 the apparitions of Our Lady happened. Visit important places such as the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima where we can find the tombs of the three little Shepherds, the Basilica of the Holy Trinity and the Apparitions Chapel.
